Want Better Skills? Fail alot...

Uncategorized Aug 07, 2024

Hey there! 👋

Let's talk about getting good at stuff.

Here's the secret:
• Fail a lot
• Keep tweaking
• Don't repeat the same thing
• Change one thing and see if it works

Forget the idea that adults teach, you learn, and boom... you've got it.

The real key to success?

Small changes. Getting a bit better each time.

Some say 1% better, some say 2%.
Who cares? The point is...

You start by NOT being good at something.
Then you slowly get better.

It goes like this:
TRY → GET RESULTS → TWEAK → TRY AGAIN
Rinse and repeat.

We call this "failing forward."

Are you a perfectionist?
Consider this:
Being perfect < Failing forward

Have you failed before?
Think about what'll make this time different, better, less stressful.

It's easy to forget the struggle and focus on the relief.
But let's go back to that moment:

• The feeling
• The doing
• The results

Didn't work out how you hoped?
Something needs to change. What is it?

Identify it without beating yourself up.
This is where the magic happens.
It's the icky part of growing into who you want to be.

Face what didn't work AND still feel okay about yourself.

Ask yourself:
• What didn't work?
• What did work?
• What do I need to try?
• What do I need to do more of? Less of?

Often, a few small tweaks make a difference.
But only if we slow down enough to see it.

Here's the thing: Your brain might not be your friend here.
Its #1 job? Keeping you safe.

If things don't go well and you have a strong negative reaction,
your brain might see that task as a threat.
It'll try to get you to avoid it.

Your brain will tell you:
• Don't think about it
• It's not good to think about it

But if we don't think about it...
we keep repeating the same mistake.
No growth, no changes... that's misery.

Instead:
Repeat the TASK with tweaks.
Even if the outcome isn't what you want,
you've learned something and have another experiment.

The only way to fail?
• Blindly repeat what doesn't work
• Give up

Everything else is a win or a lesson. Honestly.

So focus on tasks and tweaks.

Wishing you an incredible school year! 🌟
